25th Anniversary of the Ken Leigh 4 Hour
The first weekend in December will see Winton Motor Raceway play host to the 25th anniversary of one of the biggest Holden HQ events of the year.
The Ken Leigh 4 Hour is one of the longest running one-make endurance races in the country.
It originated 33 years ago at Calder Park in 1983 as the HQ 3 Hour Enduro.
The race weekend is all about “remembering our mate Ken” who passed away 25 years ago, a man loved by all who knew him.
Ken Leigh himself was a key figure in HQ racing in the late 80s and early 90s and had a lot to do with the HQ enduro during this time.
His popularity is why so many people compete in this 4 hour enduro every year, in memory of their great friend.
The ‘Nation’s Action Track’ Winton Motor Raceway has played host to the HQ enduro under the AASA sanctioning body for over 25 years.
The Ken Leigh 4 Hour is a unique format, Friday is all about practicing,
Day 2 sees competitors take part in a warm up before qualifying and part 1. Each part of the enduro includes two tyre changes and one driver change.
Sunday also commences with a warm up and concludes with part 2 of the enduro.
The race is run on the 3.0km national circuit which is well suited to producing great wheel-to-wheel tussles.
It is also a very affordable event to compete in, particularly when you take into account the incredible amount of track time.
The entry includes all three days of action, pit lane garage and a welcome BBQ on Friday night, along with numerous awards, prizes and medallions.
Another great aspect of the Ken Leigh 4 Hour is that the event is free for spectators to attend.
On Saturday from 3pm to 8:30pm there will be off-track activities for friends and families, Winton’s first Christmas Twilight Market.
Over 30 stalls will feature, food, gifts and activities for the kids! www.wintonraceway.com.au/winton-twilight-market-dec-6th
